During these day-long Saturday programs we'lll spend extended time in deep meditation by “rounding” in a pleasant restful environment free from everyday disturbances of life. Through repeated, successive practice of special light yoga postures (asanas), ancient breathing practices (pranayama) and vedic meditation, we will experience several “rounds” of meditation in each day-long program.

The added rest you will experience through rounding helps the body & mind release deep seated tension, fatigue and stress. The result is a wonderfully relaxed body and mind that is “reposed in the Self” and more fully in the present moment.

Often you may feel that over a period of time your meditations lose their comfort and joy and seem to be not as easy and effortless as they once were like when you first started to meditate. This may be due to effort creeping into your practice which leaves you feeling restless, sleepy, or experiencing too many thoughts so that you are unable to settle down and go deep in meditation.

These are the perfect situations where you can know that it's time to renew and restore your innocent, effortless meditation practice by taking a Forest Academy Saturday™ silence retreat.

There are three states of mind that determine your ability to experience deep silent awareness. The first state of mind is rajas or a restless or impatient state of mind. The second is tamas when your mind is experiencing dullness or sleepiness. When either rajas or tamas are present in your mind there is no peace or joy in your awareness. The third sates of mind is known as sattva where peace, calm and dynamic stillness dominate your awareness. Sattva is your natural innocent state of mind that is experienced when you are fully in the present moment.

During rounding at these mini-retreats, we use yoga postures or asanas to flex & loosen your body, relaxing the nervous system so it can easily release the knots of stress that get stored in your cells and connective tissues. The ancient breathing practices or pranayama techniques are then used to control the flow of your breath to assist in carrying away stress and toxins from your system.

While we do these asanas and pranayama at the same time we also eliminate rajas and tamas from our mind, leaving us in the state of sattva. From this peaceful, restive and effortless state of sattva we then begin our meditations, settled deep in the Self - the present moment.

At this point, we can also embrace further knowledge and understanding of our practice which will be gained through discussions and sharing of experiences from the program.

On these retreats, we also maintain silence and don't speak speak for the entire day which helps the mind to further settle into the experience of peacefulness and joy being developed during our meditations.

All in all, these courses are a most wonderful gift to give yourself at least every couple of months throughout the year. Start your year off right and keep taking these retreats every couple of months and what the difference they make in your life.
